Assessments

Psychoeducational Assessment Process

1. Developmental & Medical History Review

We begin by gathering detailed information about your child’s developmental milestones, medical background, and any previous assessments or interventions. This helps us understand the broader context of their development and identify potential contributing factors.

2. Behavioral Observations
Your child’s behaviour will be observed throughout the assessment process. In the case of an ASD evaluation, this may include formal observation. These insights help us see how your child’s symptoms present in different environments.

3. Standardized Assessments
Your child may complete a range of standardized tests to evaluate cognitive abilities, academic achievement, language skills, and social-emotional functioning. These assessments help us pinpoint areas of strength and difficulty, and determine whether your child meets diagnostic criteria for conditions such as ADHD, ASD, or giftedness.

At Root + Radiate, our comprehensive assessment process is designed to gain a deep understanding of your child’s unique strengths and challenges. Here's what the process typically includes:

4. Parent & Teacher Interviews

We incorporate input from both parents and teachers to understand how your child functions across home and school settings. This collaborative approach ensures a well-rounded picture of your child’s behaviour, performance, and social interactions.

5. Feedback & Personalized Recommendations

Following the assessment, you'll receive a detailed report outlining our findings, including any diagnoses (if applicable), and tailored recommendations. These may include strategies for home, school accommodations, and referrals to additional supports like therapists or specialists.

Fees

At Root + Radiate, our services are billed at an hourly rate of $230, rather than a fixed fee, allowing us to tailor the assessment process to your child's individual needs. Typically, the assessment process takes from 10-15 hours.

As I’ve heard one too many times in my own home with my own littles - “there’s no job too big and no pup too small”. I have a network of professional colleagues in the community that I am able to refer to and would be pleased to provide community programs, ideas, and other supports available, as suitable. I’m a firm believer in community and am here to help.

We acknowledge that what we call Alberta is the traditional and ancestral territory of many peoples, presently subject to Treaties 6, 7, and

8. Namely: the Blackfoot Confederacy - Kainai, Piikani, and Siksika - the Cree, Dene, Saulteaux, Nakota Sioux, Stoney Nakoda, and the Tsuu T'ina Nation and the Métis People of Alberta. This includes the Métis Settlements and the Six Regions of the Métis Nation of Alberta within the historical Northwest Metis Homeland. We acknowledge the many First Nations, Métis and Inuit who have lived in and cared for these lands for generations. We are grateful for the traditional Knowledge Keepers and Elders who are still with us today and those who have gone before us. We make this acknowledgement as an act of reconciliation and gratitude to those whose territory we reside, work, or are visiting on.
