The CBD Start-Up Guide

So, you’ve overheard your co-workers or friends hyping up this new cannabis product called CBD, and you’re feeling the FOMO start to creep in like the fog on a summer day in San Francisco. Don’t worry, I’ve been there too, and I’ve written this article to fill you in on all the details so that you can decide if it’s something you might wanna try too!

What is CBD?

CBD is short for the scientific term cannabidiol (, let’s try again.. What does that actually mean? Well, most of you are probably familiar with THC, which is the psychoactive molecule in the cannabis plant that gives you that high, euphoric feeling. What most people don’t know about cannabis is that THC is just 1 of over 111 identified phytocannabinoids in the plant! CBD is another one of those phytocannabinoids that is very prominent.

Recent studies have found that it has the potential to have significant impacts on treating stress, anxiety, depression, sleep disorders, autoimmune disorders, and even cancer. I know what you’re thinking right now because when I heard this for the first time I was thinking it too: “This sounds way too good to be true.” Well it turns out that there is real science and studies backing the reason why it can have such a significant impact on such a broad range of health issues. The secret lies in how CBD interacts with the endocannabinoid system in the human body. Never heard of the endocannabinoid system? No big deal, it’s only responsible for regulating pretty much every major system that is key in the functioning of a healthy human body. There’s too much that I have to say about this topic to get into it here. I’ve got much more to teach you to get you up to speed on the basics of CBD, but if you want to learn more about the endocannabinoid system, check out this article called The Invisible Force Field within the Human Body.

Is it Gonna Get Me High?

CBD is non-psychoactive, meaning that you can use this powerful medicinal plant without having to get that high feeling that can be disorienting sometimes. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve had my fair share of fun with THC, and sometimes I still do. But for me, there is a time and a place for other words..I’ve got sh*t to do! And I’m sure you do too. So yes, it’s true, you can get the happy moods without the high when taking CBD.

Should I Take CBD?

The real question is...why wouldn’t you take CBD? There are so many amazing benefits to taking CBD for different a lot of different reasons! Take a moment to reflect and ask yourself the questions below:

Do you experience work-induced stress?

Do you suffer from anxiety in social situations or at work?

Do you struggle with overbearing anxious thoughts that spiral into depressive moods?

Do you find yourself having a difficult time falling asleep at night?

Do you experience extreme fatigue or muscle soreness after going hard in the gym?

Do you suffer from any type of chronic pain or autoimmune disorders that inhibits you from showing up at your best?

Are you someone who seeks to achieve physical, emotional and spiritual balance in their life?

Are you someone who likes to take preventative measures to ensure that you stay healthy?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, then taking CBD is definitely worth giving a try! CBD works in synergy with your endocannabinoid system to promote happier, balanced moods, increase your ability to handle stressful situations, decrease inflammatory conditions in the body, and can provide you with a sense of peace and tranquility coming from within. How Do I Know Which Brands to Trust?

The Green Rush is happening, y’all! As cannabis has started to make its way to the mainstream public, there has been a flurry of CBD companies hitting the scene to get in on a piece of the action. This can make it overwhelming for you to choose which CBD product to trust, especially with the industry still being highly unregulated.

Here are a few values that trustworthy brands will have:

Transparency: In order to make the best purchasing decision, it’s important to know where your cannabis comes from. The last thing you want as a consumer is to purchase from a brand that is just trying to make a quick buck. Often times this means that there are a lot of cut corners that have a negative effect on the quality of the end product. A trustworthy brand will be clear about the source of their products.

Quality: Make sure you are really giving yourself the chance to see if CBD is a good product to add to your daily or weekly health regimine. The only way to do this is to make sure that you are getting high quality products that will be effective. Three big things to look out for here--lab tests, price, and reviews.

Price: You get what you pay for when it comes to CBD. Prices can have a broad range anywhere from $40-$100+ depending on what you’re buying, and I can see how this can be confusing to understand what makes one product more expensive than the other. The key thing here is that companies who take greater care in ensuring premium, high quality ingredients are most likely to charge more because it costs them more to make it. Additionally, brands with good reputations can charge a premium rate because they add value in other ways like providing free educational information (like this blog) or peace of mind in ensuring consistent quality.

Lab Tests: Lab tests are an essential part of accountability in the CBD world as it stands. If the company is not providing insights into the lab tests of the cannabis crop that was harvested for your batch, then you are really leaving things up to chance. You want to make sure that a 3rd party ISO certified testing lab has confirmed that there are no molds, toxins, or contaminants within the past 8-10 months.📷

Reviews: Companies that are confident in the quality and effectiveness of their product will allow their customers to leave reviews directly on their website. Reviews can be super helpful in helping you realize that other people bought the product for the same reason as you and that it actually works!

Purpose: If you are taking CBD for any of the reasons mentioned above, you want to make sure that the company that you’re purchasing from isn’t selling CBD because it’s what all the cool kids are doing these days. Trust me, there are plenty of companies out there marketing CBD in this way. When we look a little deeper, we come to realize that all life is a form of energy. The type of energy that goes behind making a product is transferred to the end user. That’s why I strongly encourage you to purchase CBD from a brand that makes it clear that they are operating because they care about improving the health and well-being of their customers. These companies typically take much more care along the process to make sure they are providing you with a clean & well-intended product that is actually going to work.

How Much Do I Take?

Truthfully, there is no “one size fits all” answer to this question. The amount of CBD that will work for you depends on a number of different factors such as; your body weight, the intensity of your condition, your unique biological reaction to the molecule, and most importantly, your sensitivity to cannabis. Now, I know that might sound overwhelming, but hang in there with me for a sec. The key when first trying out CBD is to give yourself a ramp period-meaning that you should start with a small amount and scale up your dosage from there depending on how your body reacts. We can break the dosage amount down into micro, standard, and macro amounts.

Micro is typically the best route to take for reasons like helping you fall asleep easier, easing tension headaches, inducing calm and balanced moods, subsiding nausea, reducing stress levels in the body, and aiding your metabolism. A micro dose ranges anywhere from .5 mg to 20 mg per dose per day.

Standard doses can help you ease bodily pain such as arthritis or any inflammatory conditions, subside anxious or depressive thoughts & mental disorders, aid in weight loss, treat autoimmune disorders and much more. A standard dosage ranges from 10 mg to 100 mg per dose per day.

Macro doses are typically used in therapeutic cases such as treating cancer, seizures or epilepsy, liver disease or other severe and life-threatening conditions. A macro dose can range anywhere between 50 mg to 800 mg per dose per day.
